The 26th microTOOL user conference in Berlin

“Present. And future!” – that was the motto at the microTOOL user conference on May 11th and 12th, 2016. For the 26th time microTOOL invited experts and clients from different industries to the Pestana Hotel in Tiergarten, Berlin. The speakers discussed their best practices in project management and requirements engineering. Users talked about their experience with objectiF RM and in-STEP BLUE – two tools from the microTOOL stable – and the microTOOL organization itself reported on its current development status and the planned expansion over the next 12 months. Beyond that, microTOOL presented its new software, objectiF RPM for the first time, a solution for requirements engineering and agile development.

The list of talks at the user conference was broad. Clients reported on choosing and applying microTOOL solutions: in-STEP BLUE and objectiF RM. Contributions from DILAX Intelcom, IKEA, Mubea Fahrwerksfedern, Raytheon Germany and ITZBund – federal office for IT services, demonstrated where the software has been applied in practice. Rainer Wendt, president of the German chapter of the International Institute for Business Analyses (IIBA), will be speaking about effective communication in the business analysis. The talk by author, Andreas Zeuch, was entitled: “Company democracy – the future of work or joke of the week?” And the management consultant Wolfgang Ksoll elucidated the improvements in PRINCE2 agile, the agile manifestation of the British project management method, PRINCE2.

The “knowledge black market” was once again an active part of the agenda this year. Small groups of between 10-12 participants gathered at tables and chatted with experts about various topics. The experts conveyed compact information in 30 minutes and answered questions while talking to participants. The topic options included: requirements specifications in two weeks, the theater of complexity, violence free communication, fear of cannibals, agile approaches and career hurdles and the challenges in personal change.

The event concluded with “knowledge to go” in which participants were introduced to the current versions of objectiF RPM and in-STEP BLUE.
