Are you in the middle of a project? Good. And do you know exactly where your project is at the moment, which results are finished, what is being done right now, how the time has been spent which was planned and what the project has cost up to now? If you can’t answer these questions with a heartfelt Ye s, then you’ve come to the right place.
This manual is dedicated to all of those who carry responsibility for projects and who organize work into project teams. We refer to them for simplicity’s sake as project managers, although we know that people in a wide range of positions really perform these tasks in practice, such as project directors, team leaders or team members in teams which do the organizing themselves.
This manual is about project management. Project management is made up of three main areas:
- project planning – each project needs a plan if you don’t want it to turn into chaos
- collecting status information – because what use is planned data if you don’t compare it to what’s actually going on?
- project control – the plan-actual comparison isn’t just an exercise, but as a foundation for corrective action
You will find out how in-STEP BLUE supports you in the following pages and chapters.
